Crack Sealing When cracks are left unsealed, moisture creeps under the asphalt and pavement begins to deteriorate. The pavement will sink and crumble causing more cracks to form and creating potholes. The freeze-thaw cycles speed the deterioration up.

CEPM crack sealing process includes cleaning out the wide cracks and opening others to accept the sealant. Our hot rubberized crack sealant remains flexible in order to allow cracks to stay sealed when expansion and contraction of pavement occurs.

Pothole Repair The peak season for potholes is March-April. The winter freeze-thaw cycles greatly increase the incidence of potholes. They develop when two factors are present at the same time: water and traffic. Water penetrates to the base of the roadway through surface defects, such as cracks caused by aged pavement and heavy traffic. The water expands when it freezes causing the pavement to bulge and heavy traffic will break the bulge forming a hole.

CEPM provides temporary and permanent repairs. Temporary repairs consist of cleaning out a pothole and then filling it with compacted asphalt. This prevents water from causing further damage to the pavement. Temporary repairs are a quick way to keep the traveling public safe. Permanent repairs should be scheduled later.

To permanently repair a pothole, the hole is excavated and cut, loose material is removed, the hole is dried and liquid asphalt is applied. The liquid asphalt allows bonding. The pothole is then filled and properly compacted. This extends the useful life of the pavement.
