Pothole Repair

The peak season for potholes is March-April.

The winter freeze-thaw cycles greatly increase the incidence of potholes. They develop when two factors are present at the same time: water and traffic. Water penetrates to the base of the roadway through surface defects, such as cracks caused by aged pavement and heavy traffic. The water expands when it freezes causing the pavement to bulge and heavy traffic will break the bulge forming a hole.
